
TellThemPublicMatters.org is a campaign dedicated to stopping cuts to federal funding for public broadcasting. The project is sponsored by the public broadcasting stations in your community, as well as the following national organizations:
APTS-the Association of Public Television Stations is a nonprofit association whose members are the nation's public television stations. APTS represents stations' interests before Congress, the FCC, other federal agencies and national organizations. APTS also helps stations plan for their future by monitoring the media environment for trends and researching issues that will influence public television stations' services to their communities. NPR-National Public Radio, incorporated in 1970, NPR's mission is to work in parternership with its member public radio stations to create a more informed public, one challenged and invigorated by a deeper understanding and appreciation of events, ideas and culture. Although best known for producing such programs as All Things Considered®, Morning Edition®, Talk of the Nation®, and Performance Today® , NPR also represents more than 800 full-service noncommercial educational, or "NCE", radio stations, which are themselves significant producers of local, regional, and national news, information, and cultural programming. NPR programming is also distributed worldwide via the Armed Forces Radio and Television Network, the America One service on the Astra satellite, and via NPR's Internet Web site, npr.org. PBS-the Public Broadcasting Service, formed in 1969, is a private, nonprofit corporation that distributes programs by satellite to its member stations nationwide. In addition to providing some of the nation's most acclaimed news and public affairs, science, nature, cultural and children's programming, PBS also provides a wide range of educational services, from preschool through adult levels. PBS and its members stations are leaders in education technology, developing services such as closed-captioning for hearing-impaired viewers and Descriptive Video Service for blind audiences.
